White wine is always best served chilled according to the professionals. There are six different types of white wine and they come from different grapes. Chardonnay, one of the least favored, Moscato, Pinot Grigio, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier make up the list. There are over 20 different white wine grapes that create different variations of white wine. Below is a breakdown of some of the more popular types of white wines.
Chardonnay is the most complex and versatile grape out there. The texture of Chardonnay white wine has a medium to full-bodied flavor, since it is a dry wine that originates from the Burgundy region of France. One can taste flavors of apple, lemon, papaya, and pineapple. Chardonnay is a rich and flavorful wine that can be enjoyed throughout the day.
Moscato is more of a sparkling wine but is under the white wine category. The carbonation is created to make the wine pop and fizzle more for the tasters pleasure. Truly a remarkable way to create sparkling wine and champagne. Moscato grapes are sweet, fruity, and bursting with flavor. Moscato is best enjoyed with dessert, however one can enjoy white fish and Fettuccine Alfredo pasta. Truly refreshing and easy flavored taste.
Pinot Grigio is known as Pinot Gris, the wine is light-bodied with fresh floral flavors. Italians fell in love with Pinot Grigio due to the way the wine was blended and fermented. Pinot Grigio is grown in the Northern parts of Italy where the climate is dry and distant. New World Pinot Grigio has fresh, citrusy, and fruit flavored tastes. One can enjoy seafood, pasta dishes, and vegetarian foods with Pinot Grigio. Lobster pasta and Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp are more commonly eaten with Pinot Grigio.
White wine has a vast array of flavors and tastes. Some are dry and others are too sweet and wet flavored. For example Moscato has a sparkling, carbonated flavor while Chardonnay has a tarty and dry flavor. Majority of the white wines have fruity and floral flavors that give it a light taste. Some white wines have a tangy, lemon, and zesty acid flavor which gives it that complex taste.
White wine is a wine that most people finish same day or within the week. Some white wines last longer than others. For example sparkling white wine will last only one to two days after opening. Light wine will last four to five days after opening, and rich white wines can last up to three to five days upon opening. Best enjoyed same day like most things.
