For the past twenty years, Farid Dormishian has been a biochemist, a bartender, a winemaker, and a distiller. After more than two decades of passionate interest, the U.C. Berkeley graduate has opened his own distillery in nearby RIchmond where he has finally created his first product: The Botanica Spirits gin - his endeavor to capture the spirits of over 12 botanicals in a bottle.
The modern gin style balances the juniper with the other botanicals in a well-orchestrated combination of other herbs and fruits (like cucumber). Farid predominantly uses vapor infusion due to its superior ability to capture aromas with the least amount of impurity. In the herbal distillation step, he employs 100% grain spirit, six times distilled and carbon filtered spirit, while remaining mindful that not all herbs should be extracted under the same condition. The result is a lively, peppery, spicy, balanced, and exciting new Bay Area gin that should not be missed.
