Description

Bombay Sapphire is a London Dry gin distilled in England. It grew out of the older Bombay Dry Gin in the 1980s. Michel Roux of Carillon Importers, the man behind the rise of Absolut Vodka, helped bring it to market.

Bombay Sapphire was one of the first modern gins to talk openly about its botanicals. It uses ten of them. They are juniper, lemon peel, coriander, orris root, angelica, almonds, liquorice, cassia, cubeb berries and grains of paradise.

Its arrival brought fresh interest to gin, and bartenders soon built new drinks around it. It is still a go-to premium gin in many home bars.

Take a sniff and you get juniper and bright citrus, with peppery spice and soft floral notes. The taste is smooth and balanced, with juniper at the center and lemon and spice around it. It finishes clean, with citrus and spice that hang on for a while.

A gin and tonic with a lime wedge is the easy place to start. It also makes a crisp Martini or a Tom Collins. You can find more classic cocktails to try at home. At 47% ABV it holds its flavor well, even with plenty of ice and mixer.
