Veuve Clicquot was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot. Veuve Clicquot is now one of the largest Champagne houses in Champagne, France. After Philippe spread the brand across Europe, Russia, and the United States, his son François Clicquot, joined him at the head of the house in 1798. Seven years later, François died before his expected time and his widow, Barbe Ponsardin, took over the family business at the age of 27 years old. The House of Clicquot would change its name to ‘Veuve Clicquot’ (The Widow Clicquot) in honor of the widow. Since acquiring the family business, Barbe Ponsardin, innovated new techniques and methods with how to handle and make Champagne. In 1810 Veuve Clicquot produced the first vintage wine in Champagne, France. Before Champagne was never aged and would go bad after a certain time. In 1816 Barbe Clicquot invented the riddling table to help find out more about Veuve Clicquot Champagnes. Doing so, she improved the quality and finesse of the wines. The riddling table is now used all around the world to perfect each champagne and wine. One of the last of ways she innovated Veuve Clicquot Champagne was through creating the first rose champagne which is now one of the more popular types of champagne. The method used is called “assemblage” where white wines are blended with red wines. Finding the best white wines and red wines made the rose so much better. Veuve Clicquot Champagne, one of the most popular Champagnes on the planet. The surely understood "Yellow Label" speaks to quality to such a large number of individuals. The layers of citrus and minerality from the Chardonnay, a brambly berry from the Pinot Meunier, and the refined full structure from the Pinot Noir, which is the predominant assortment in this mix, make this an extraordinary Non-Vintage Champagne.
