Description

Eterno Verano Añejo is the oldest of the three tequilas from a brand built around a love of summer. The name means "eternal summer" in Spanish. It was inspired by The Endless Summer, Bruce Brown's 1966 surf film. Matti Anttila started the brand under his company, Grain & Barrel Spirits. The range reached the US in 2022 with a Blanco, a Reposado and this añejo tequila.

This tequila is handmade in the town of Tequila, Mexico. The man behind it is master tequilero Arturo Fuentes. Many in the trade call him "The Godfather of Tequila." He works with 100% blue Weber agave. The plants come from both the highlands and the lowlands of Jalisco. Using agave from both areas gives the spirit a fuller, rounder base.

After distillation, the spirit rests for at least 12 months in whiskey barrels. That time in wood turns it a golden tan color. It also softens the agave and adds sweet, warm layers. The bottle is made from recycled glass and sealed with a natural cork. It is bottled at 80 proof, or 40% ABV.

The producer keeps its tasting notes short and clear. A tropical aroma greets you first, bright and sunny like the name. On the palate, rich vanilla leads the way. Caramel apple follows, sweet and mellow. The finish brings a smooth chocolate note that stays with you. Give the glass a minute to breathe before your first sip, and the sweetness opens up.

Sip it neat in a tulip glass, or pour it over one large cube. It also makes a rich tequila Old Fashioned. Its vanilla and caramel notes add depth to a sipping-style Margarita too. If you mostly drink whiskey, the barrel character will feel familiar. Take small sips and let each note show up in turn.

At the table, it goes well with grilled steak, barbecued ribs or braised short ribs. Aged cheese and a charcuterie board are good matches too. For dessert, set a glass next to dark chocolate or a warm apple tart. The caramel apple note ties right in. This is a bottle for anyone who wants a sunny, easygoing pour with real depth.
