Description
The Macallan Rare Cask is a Speyside single malt with no age statement. It first came out in the US at the end of 2014, then reached the UK in mid-2015. Bob Dalgarno, Master Whisky Maker at the time, built it from 16 different casks. Most are first-fill oak from America and Spain, seasoned with sherry.
Its ruby mahogany color comes only from those casks. Nothing is added.
On the nose you get soft vanilla and rich raisin. Fresh apple, lemon and orange follow. The palate is weighty, with sweet raisin out in front. Vanilla and dark chocolate come next, lifted by light citrus zest. The finish is long, rich and velvety.
Pour it neat so you can enjoy every layer. Pair it with dark chocolate, roasted nuts or aged cheese. If you love sherried Scotch, this is a bottle to keep for special nights.
