This mezcal is an authentic Mezcal Artesanal that reflects the true spirit of Mexico. It is made from wild Agave Tepeztate, also known as Agave marmorata, which grows very slowly and needs nearly two to three decades to reach full maturity. Because this plant is rare and takes so long to develop, the production remains small, which makes each bottle special. The mezcal comes from Oaxaca, Mexico, and is crafted specifically in San Luis del Río, Tlacolula.
It is produced by Master Distiller Jorge Méndez, also known as Méndez Ramirez, who follows traditional methods to protect the character of the agave. The roasted agave is crushed with a tahona, a heavy stone wheel that helps release deep flavors, and the liquid is then double-distilled in copper pot stills. The alcohol strength usually ranges from 47.3% to 51.3% ABV, depending on the Maestro Mezcalero’s choice for the batch.
The result is a mezcal that stands out for its bold minerality along with notes of spicy green peppers, chives, and earthy, vegetal tones. It also carries a rich smoky profile similar to peat smoke. The texture is smooth and velvety, and the finish lingers with warm spicy and smoky layers. It is offered in a standard 750 ml bottle.
