Cognac is a special style of brandy that must be crafted in the Cognac region of France, and this VSOP expression represents some of its finest traditions. VSOP stands for Very Superior Old Pale, which means the youngest spirit in the blend has been aged for at least four years in French oak barrels. Maxime Trijol, a respected family-owned house since 1859, oversees every step of production themselves, from growing Ugni Blanc grapes to distilling and aging the spirit. Ugni Blanc is known for its bright acidity, and it helps create clean and refined eaux-de-vie that age beautifully.
The grapes are sourced from top-quality crus, including Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, while the distillation takes place in traditional copper pot stills using the classic Charente double-distillation method. Maxime Trijol operates 22 of these stills, which supports both quality and consistency. The Cognac is usually bottled at 40 percent ABV in a 750 ml size, though 70 cl bottles are common too. Its warm golden color hints at rich aromas of vanilla, spice, dried fruits, and light florals.
The taste is smooth and mellow with notes of marmalade, honey, pepper, and refined oak, and it finishes long and warm with gentle spice. You can enjoy it neat or mix it into classic cocktails such as the Sidecar, and its many international awards reflect its impressive quality.
