Herradura Anejo Tequila (750Ml)

Description

Herradura Añejo is made by Casa Herradura in Amatitán, Jalisco. The house was founded there in 1870 and still makes its tequila from plant to bottle on the estate. Only 100% Blue Weber Agave goes in, harvested by hand.

Herradura released this añejo in 1962. Many drinkers credit it as the first añejo ever sold, so it helped start the whole category. The law asks for one year in oak. Herradura gives it 25 months in oak. That long rest leaves a color like toasted toffee with copper shades.

The process is slow and old-fashioned. Agave hearts roast in clay ovens. Citrus trees around the distillery help natural yeast grow, and that yeast drives fermentation. Every step adds to the depth you find in the glass.

On the nose you get intense agave, toasted oak and candied nuts. Cinnamon and a bright note of citrus sit around them. The palate brings deep, nutty caramel with hints of pineapple and orange. It ends smooth and sweet, with warm baking spices. Since 2006 it has won 18 Gold and Double Gold medals, and 53 awards in all.

At 80 proof, it is easy to sip neat or over a large cube. It also makes a lovely añejo Old Fashioned or another elegant cocktail. Try it with dark chocolate, smoked meats or a rich dessert.
