This Reposado tequila is “rested” or aged, giving it a rich and smooth character. It is made from 100% Blue Weber Agave grown in the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, a region known for producing top-quality agave. Crafted at the La Primavera distillery in Atotonilco El Alto, Jalisco (NOM 1449), this tequila is aged for eight months in American white-oak barrels, four times longer than the usual two months for Reposado.
The ex-bourbon barrels contribute unique flavors and a beautiful golden amber color. On the nose, it offers soft notes of lemon, spice, and ripe stone fruit with subtle hints of toasted oak and vanilla. On the palate, it is smooth and elegant, revealing flavors of dark chocolate, vanilla, light cinnamon, and cooked agave, and finishes with a silky warmth carrying tastes of dried fruit, nuts, and caramel apple.
Typically bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof), some markets may offer it at 38% ABV. Founded in 1942 by Don Julio González-Frausto Estrada, the Don Julio brand is recognized as one of the original premium Reposado tequilas. This particular Reposado comes from the founder’s private reserve and is best enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in refined cocktails like a Margarita or Paloma.
