Description

Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship red from this historic Napa Valley winery. The 2018 vintage is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon, with a splash of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Howell Mountain fruit sits at its heart. It spent 18 months in French oak, 90% of it new, then 16 more months in bottle.

Pour a glass and you will find blackberry, black cherry, cassis and plum. Hints of violet, cocoa, dark chocolate, graphite and tobacco follow. The wine feels plush and juicy, with ripe tannins and a firm frame. Balanced acidity keeps it lively, and the finish is long and textured.

James Suckling gave it 98 points. Vinous and Jeb Dunnuck each scored it 97, and Wine Advocate gave it 95.

Open it 30 to 60 minutes early and serve it just under room temperature. Try it with grilled ribeye, lamb, roast duck or mushroom dishes. Aged cheddar or gouda are good partners too.
