Description

This bottle is where bourbon meets Napa Valley wine. Bardstown Bourbon Company teamed up with Silver Oak Cellars, the winery famous for its Cabernet. The result is part of Bardstown’s Collaborative Series.

It starts as a custom blend of six straight bourbons aged 9 to 14 years. They come from Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana and Georgia. The blend then rests for 17 months in used Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon barrels. It is bottled at 108 proof.

The wine casks show up right away. You will smell raspberry, black cherry and plum, along with toffee and roasted nuts. On the palate, dark cherry, blackberry and fig meet caramel, oak and warm spice. The finish lingers with dark berries, soft tannins, oak and a touch of tobacco.

It is a lovely way to see how rich whiskey and fine wine can share one glass. Sip it neat first. Then try a few drops of water or a single large cube. Pair it with a grilled steak, aged cheese or dark chocolate.
