Description

Ardbeg Uigeadail is a smoky single malt whisky from the Ardbeg Distillery on Islay. It is known for big peat smoke paired with the rich, raisin-like sweetness that sherry casks bring. Ardbeg blends whisky aged in ex-bourbon barrels with whisky aged in sherry casks (barrels that once held sherry wine).

The nose grabs you right away. Peat smoke comes first, like a campfire. Then you find Christmas cake and dried fruit. On the palate it is full-bodied and layered. A wave of smoke opens things up. Next come dark chocolate, candied orange and warm spice. The sherry casks add a soft, velvety feel. They calm the peat without hiding it. The finish is long, smoky and fruity. Raisins, figs and cocoa stay with you.

Jim Murray's Whisky Bible named it World Whisky of the Year in 2009 and 2010. The San Francisco World Spirits Competition gave it Double Gold medals in 2011 and 2012.
