Artemis is a celebrated Cabernet Sauvignon produced by Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in Napa Valley, California. Named after Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt, it reflects the winery’s pursuit of the finest grapes. Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars gained fame for winning the historic “Judgment of Paris” tasting in 1976 with its 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet, and Artemis continues that legacy of excellence.
This wine is crafted from a blend of estate-grown grapes and select grapes from top Napa Valley vineyards, including Atlas Peak and Coombsville. It is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, with small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, or Malbec, creating a rich and balanced flavor profile. Artemis is known for its intense fruit flavors, including blackberry, black cherry, and cassis, complemented by hints of chocolate, spices, vanilla, tobacco, and cedar.
Aged for around 15 months in French oak barrels, it develops a smooth, silky texture with soft, integrated tannins. With an alcohol content of about 14.5%–14.8%, it is full-bodied yet elegant, often described as “an iron fist in a velvet glove.” Highly rated by critics, it can be enjoyed upon release or aged gracefully for 8–15 years. Artemis pairs perfectly with grilled beef, braised short ribs, lamb, or dishes featuring wild mushrooms.
