Description

Rock Hill Farms is a single barrel Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort. The Sazerac Company owns the brand. Every bottle you pour is drawn from just one barrel.

It is made with Buffalo Trace’s Mashbill #2, the rye recipe with roughly 12 to 15% rye. Blanton’s and Elmer T. Lee come from the same mash bill. There is no age statement. It is bottled at 100 proof, or 50% ABV.

The brand dates to 1990. Its name honors Benjamin Harrison Blanton’s farm in Leestown, on rich farmland along the Kentucky River. The horses on the bottle are a nod to that farm country.

The nose opens with berries and dark fruit, plus vanilla and a light dusting of cinnamon. Give it a minute and some dried fruit comes through. On the palate, cherry, apple and berry meet cocoa and toasted sugar. Peppery spice and oak build as you sip. The finish is long, with rye spice, black pepper, oak and vanilla.

Reviewers note very little alcohol heat on the nose, even at full proof. Pour it neat or over ice, or add a few drops of water to bring the sweeter side forward. It holds up well in an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan. Try it alongside a good steak or a square of dark chocolate.
