Mumm Napa Brut Rose Sparkling Wine (750Ml)

Mumm Napa was set up by the French Champagne house Mumm, and this Napa Valley winery still works the French way. Its Brut Rosé is made by the traditional method. That means the second fermentation, and the bubbles, happen inside each bottle.

The blend is about three quarters Pinot Noir, which brings the red fruit and soft texture. Chardonnay makes up most of the rest and adds structure. A tiny share of Pinot Meunier rounds it out. A little red Pinot Noir is added for that pale salmon color. The wine then rests on its yeast for about two years before it is disgorged.

It is a Brut, so it tastes dry and fresh. As a non-vintage wine, it is blended across years to keep the style consistent. The nose is bright with strawberry and raspberry. The winemaker also notes black cherry. Juicy orange, red apple and a note of toasted bread follow. In the mouth, strawberry and orange lead. The finish turns toasty and a little biscuity, with lively, fine bubbles.

It sits at 12.5% ABV, and Wine Enthusiast has rated it 93 points. That is a strong score for a sparkling rosé at an easy price.

The winery likes it with sushi or grilled salmon. Roast duck, creamy cheeses and spicy Italian or Asian dishes are on its list too. A watermelon and feta salad is another fun match on a hot day. You can also use it in a Spritz. Chill it well and pour it into a flute or a white wine glass. Keep a bottle in the fridge for brunch, a picnic or a last-minute toast.
