Maker’s 46 is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky, and Maker’s Mark keeps the traditional “whisky” spelling to honor the founders’ Scotch-Irish roots. This bourbon stands out because it goes through extra aging with French oak, which creates a richer and more layered flavor. Ten seared French oak staves are placed inside the barrel of fully matured Maker’s Mark, and this special method is known as “Stave Profile No. 46,” which inspired the name.
It is bottled at 94 proof, meaning it has 47% alcohol by volume, yet it stays smooth because it is a wheated bourbon made with soft red winter wheat instead of rye. The flavor is stronger and more complex than regular Maker’s Mark, offering warm notes of vanilla, caramel, baking spices, and gentle French oak. You get a creamy mouthfeel with deep vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, and subtle oak spice, while the finish is long, smooth, and pleasantly warm with sweet spice lingering at the end.
The standard bottle comes in a 750ml size, and it was the first major new release from the distillery since 1958. Bill Samuels Jr. created it to deliver a bolder bourbon without bitterness, and it is loved for sipping neat, on the rocks, or in classic cocktails.
