Description

Green River traces its roots to 1885 in Owensboro, Kentucky. It is the 10th oldest licensed distillery in the state, known as DSP-KY-10. A fire destroyed the original distillery in 1918, and Prohibition kept it quiet for decades. Bardstown Bourbon Company bought it in July 2022 and brought the brand back.

Full Proof uses the same mash bill as the standard Green River bourbon: 70% corn, 21% rye and 9% malted barley. It ages in charred American oak. The team blends barrels aged five to seven years, picked from the old tile warehouses. The first batch was bottled at 117.3 proof, and the proof can change by batch.

The nose opens with cinnamon, dried cherry and light leather. On the palate you get warming spice, vanilla and caramel. There is also a fun note of chocolate-coated peppermint. The body feels weighty, and the rich mouthfeel lingers long after you swallow.

Pour it neat to feel its full strength, or add an ice cube to calm the heat. It makes a bold base for classic cocktails like an Old Fashioned or a Whiskey Sour. Try it with smoked meats, nuts or dark chocolate truffles.
