Gosling’s Black Seal Rum comes from Bermuda, where it is blended and bottled with care. The base spirits are sourced from selected Caribbean distilleries. It is made by Gosling Brothers Limited, Bermuda’s oldest company, which has been producing fine spirits since 1806. This dark rum, often called “Bermuda Black Rum,” is created using a mix of pot still and continuous still distillates — the pot still adds rich flavor, while the continuous still makes it smooth and balanced. The rum is aged in charred American oak barrels, usually ones that once held bourbon, giving it a deep and mature taste.
With 40% alcohol (80 proof), Gosling’s Black Seal Rum has a dark copper color that looks almost black. It smells of butterscotch, vanilla, fruitcake, spices, and herbs. The taste is full and layered with molasses, sweet spices, stewed fruits, and caramel. The name “Black Seal” originated after World War I, when the rum was sold in reused champagne bottles sealed with black wax to stop leaks.
Today, it is known as the official rum for the famous Dark ’n Stormy® cocktail, a trademark owned by Gosling Brothers. It’s also great in other drinks like the Bermuda Rum Swizzle and even adds flavor to Bermuda Fish Chowder, showing just how versatile it is.
