Description

Four Roses Small Batch is the distillery's everyday premium bourbon. It is made in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and bottled at 90 proof, or 45% ABV. Four Roses says the barrels in each batch are 6 to 7 years old.

Four Roses works with two mash bills and several yeast strains, which gives it ten recipes. Small Batch blends four of them: OBSK, OBSO, OESK and OESO. The B mash bill carries 35% rye, while the E mash bill has 20%. The K yeast brings baking spice, and the O yeast adds rich fruit. Mixed together, they make a bourbon that feels balanced from start to finish.

Rich fruit, sweet oak and caramel meet you on the nose. The palate brings ripe red berries and dried spices. The finish is soft and smooth, and it stays a pleasant while. Many reviewers also find cherry, vanilla and a creamy feel. American Whiskey Magazine picks up bright apricot on the nose as well.

Judges like it as much as everyday drinkers do. In 2023 it won Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. That year it also took Gold at the International Wine and Spirits Competition and American Whiskey Masters. Whiskies of the World gave it Gold as well, and Global Drinks Guide scored it 95 points.
