Duckhorn Vineyards is a renowned Napa Valley winery founded in 1976 and is known for producing elegant, classic Chardonnay. The wine is made entirely from Chardonnay grapes, often sourced from cooler areas of Napa Valley such as Oak Knoll, Carneros, and Atlas Peak.
It is carefully aged in French oak barrels for about nine months, using a mix of new and older barrels. Most of the wine is fermented in barrels, while a small portion is fermented in tanks. About 40% of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation, giving it a smoother texture while maintaining freshness. Traditional French winemaking techniques, including stirring the lees, are used to enhance richness and complexity.
This Chardonnay comes in a standard 750 mL bottle with an alcohol content of approximately 14.1%. It offers inviting aromas of pear, nectarine, lemon cream, orange blossom, and subtle hints of vanilla or baking spices. On the palate, it is silky with lively acidity, showing flavors of citrus, orchard fruits, creamy dessert notes, and sometimes a touch of minerality. It pairs wonderfully with roasted chicken, lobster, and creamy pasta dishes. Often highly rated by critics, Duckhorn Chardonnay frequently scores 90+ points and is priced in the mid-to-upper range, usually between $30 and $50 per bottle depending on the vintage.
