Description

This premium rum is produced in Venezuela by Destilerías Unidas S.A. (DUSA) and is specially crafted for sipping, celebrated for its smooth and rich taste. It is aged up to 12 years in small oak barrels, mostly ex-bourbon casks, giving it a deep and complex character. The rum is blended from different types of stills, including a copper pot still and a batch kettle, creating a unique and balanced flavor. Unlike most rums, it is made primarily from sugarcane honey (concentrated cane juice) instead of molasses, adding natural sweetness and richness.

Typically bottled at 40% alcohol in a 750ml bottle, it pours a beautiful deep amber or mahogany color. On the palate, it is complex, offering notes of maple syrup, orange peel, toffee, brown sugar, vanilla and sometimes hints of licorice or cocoa. The flavor is smooth and rich, with touches of caramel, toffee fudge, dark chocolate, dried fruits and soft spices, leading to a long warming finish with lingering vanilla and oak.

This rum is perfect neat or over ice, but it also works wonderfully in classic cocktails like an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan twist. Inspired by Don Juancho Nieto Meléndez, a 19th-century Venezuelan diplomat and rum lover, it has won numerous awards and is regarded as one of the world’s finest rums.
