    Description

Código 1530 Añejo is a 100% agave tequila from Amatitán, in the Mexican state of Jalisco. The recipe belongs to a local distilling family. They have refined it over generations. It is made at a single distillery and bottled at origin. Nothing is added. There are no sweeteners, flavorings, coloring or chemicals.

The barrel is what sets it apart. For 18 months the tequila rests in barrels of French white oak. Those barrels first held Napa Valley Cabernet. That wine cask gives it a warm amber color and a soft, rounded feel.

Lift the glass and you will find vanilla, butterscotch, caramel and oak. On the palate, vanilla and caramel lead the way. Hints of fruit and oak follow, with just a touch of spice. The finish is smooth and delicate rather than hot.

Judges like it too. It won Double Gold at the SIP Awards in 2022 and Double Gold at the TAG Global Spirits Awards in 2023. An earlier release took Platinum and Best in Class at the 2016 SIP Awards.

Pour it neat or over one large cube. It also makes a lovely Añejo Old Fashioned. Try it with aged cheese, grilled steak, smoked salmon or a square of dark chocolate. If you enjoy a gentle, oak-led añejo, you will reach for this one often. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a host or a special occasion.
