    Description

Charles Heidsieck Brut Réserve is the signature non-vintage Champagne of the house. Charles Heidsieck founded it in 1851. In 1867 the house bought chalk cellars, or crayères, deep under central Reims.

The blend is 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier, drawn from sixty crus. About half of it is reserve wine, aged for around ten years on average. A small share is made in old Burgundy oak barrels.

In the glass you see a deep gold color and fine, steady bubbles. The nose brings brioche, roasted notes and ripe stone fruit like mango, apricot and mirabelle plum. Dried fruit, pistachio and almond join in. On the palate the texture is creamy, almost like nougat, with plum and cherry. The finish leaves amber, vanilla and a touch of praline.

James Suckling gave it 95 points, and Wine Enthusiast scored it 93. Chill it to about 8 to 10°C before you pour. Try it with oysters, sushi, fried fish, soft cheeses or roast chicken.
