Basil Hayden's Kentucky Straight Bourbon (750Ml)

Description

Basil Hayden’s Kentucky Straight Bourbon takes its name from Meredith Basil Hayden. He was a Maryland rye farmer who moved to Kentucky and started distilling in 1792. He was known for putting more rye in his mash than most of his neighbours. In 1992, master distiller Booker Noe built a bourbon around that same idea.

The result is a high-rye bourbon bottled at 80 proof. It is light in body and gentle on the palate. That makes it a friendly first step if you are new to bourbon. Longtime fans enjoy it too.

Pour a glass and you will notice its golden brown colour. The nose brings charred oak, vanilla and caramel, with a little dried fruit in the background. On the palate, that oak meets sweet brown sugar. A touch of black pepper and more dried fruit follow. The finish is pleasant and lingers for a while.

This bourbon picked up a Gold medal at the International Spirits Challenge in 2022.

You can sip it neat or over a single ice cube. It also makes a smooth Old Fashioned or a bright whiskey sour. With food, try sharp cheese, apple slices or a light dessert.
