You've heard of Japan’s first and oldest malt distillery, Suntory. Now, we're glad to introduce their flagship single malt whisky! The Yamazaki 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky feels different from many Scotch single malts. American oak, Spanish oak, sherry casks, and mizunara (Japanese oak) all lend to its character. Even the distillery’s careful yeast selection, fermentation times, and pot still shapes also contribute to its clean, refined profile.
Let's dive deeper. On the nose, expect orchard fruit, ripe peach, and a floral honey sweetness layered over light vanilla and that little hint of sandalwood. There is a gentle citrus zest as well, and a faint spice hints at cinnamon and clove. The palate is silky and refined. Juicy stone fruit and orchard apple lead - quickly followed by honeyed malt, soft oak tannin, and a delicate spice that rounds the mid-palate. The finish is medium length, clean, and slightly dry with a lingering floral note and a touch of toasted oak.
The proud winner of a Gold Medal at the 2025 International Spirits Challenge, Yamazaki 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky is one of many Yamazaki bottles to bring home noteworthy accolades.
The Yamazaki 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky is best brought out for quiet sipping. There's complexity there that demands to be studied, appreciated even.
