Wild Turkey 101 8 Year Old is the classic 101 with its age statement back on the label. The US version lost the eight-year statement in 1992. After that, this bottle lived mostly in export markets, Japan above all. It finally came home to US shelves as a permanent release in April 2025.

It is a Kentucky straight bourbon aged at least eight years. The mash bill is 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley. Wild Turkey fills new American oak barrels with a heavy alligator char. It is bottled at 101 proof, or 50.5% ABV.

Nose it first and you will catch caramel, roasted nuts, citrus peel and sweet oak. The palate is full and rich. Vanilla, toffee and clove lead, with lemon zest, black cherry and charred oak behind them. The finish is long, with brown sugar, dried fruit, vanilla and allspice.

Drinkhacker gave it an A- grade. Reviewers agree it shows more depth than the standard 101.

Pour it neat, add a few drops of water, or serve it over a large cube. It also makes a sturdy Old Fashioned or Manhattan. Smoked brisket, pecan pie and dark chocolate all go well alongside. Longtime Wild Turkey fans will feel at home here. Newer bourbon drinkers will find it a bold but friendly step up.
