Description

This bottle is a limited single barrel rye from WhistlePig, made with the Stake F1 Team KICK Sauber. It belongs to the PiggyBack line, which means six years old and made from 100% rye grain.

The twist comes from Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas. After aging in new American oak, the whiskey rests in barrels that once held his OΛTH Gin. That short gin finish adds a light juniper and citrus edge to the spicy rye.

Pour a glass and you get rye spice first, with caramel and toffee sweetness close behind. A hint of juniper and dried citrus peel sits on top. On the palate it turns bolder, with black pepper, rye spice and vanilla. Toasted oak, dark fruit and baking spice fill out the mid-palate. The finish is long and warm, with sweet oak and a last touch of pine and citrus.

It is bottled at cask strength, so give it a minute in the glass. Try it neat, then add a few drops of water. It also makes a lively Manhattan, where the gin notes play well with sweet vermouth.

Every barrel is a little different, and this release came in small numbers. If you collect racing gear or rare WhistlePig bottles, this one makes a fun piece for your shelf.
