W.L. Weller C.Y.P.B. carries the tag line "The Original Wheated Bourbon." The Weller name runs deep in American whiskey history. Its recipe uses wheat in place of rye as the second grain. Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky makes it today.

The letters stand for Craft Your Perfect Bourbon. In 2015, Buffalo Trace opened an online survey to fans. More than 100,000 people picked a recipe, a warehouse spot, an age and a proof. Most chose a wheated mash, the top warehouse floors and about eight years in oak. The distillery built this bottle from those answers.

The first batch came out in 2018. It is bottled at 95 proof. The barrels rest on the highest floors of the warehouse.

Buffalo Trace keeps its own notes short. The nose is light, with citrus and oak. The palate is well rounded and balanced. Reviewers often pick out caramel and vanilla, framed by oak. The finish is medium-long, with a gentle touch of vanilla.

The awards list keeps growing. In 2024 it won Gold at the Denver International Spirits Competition. That same year it took Silver at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the World Whiskies Awards. It won Silver at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in 2024 and 2025.
