Description

TINCUP 14 Year is the oldest whiskey the Colorado brand has released so far. It belongs to the Fourteener series, named for the state's peaks over 14,000 feet. Each yearly release shows a different mountain on the label. The bourbon rests fourteen years in new white American oak barrels. It is then cut to 84 proof with spring water from Eldorado Springs, just outside Boulder.

TINCUP was started by Jess Graber, the same man who founded Stranahan's. His idea was simple: a high-rye style whiskey with a mountain spirit. This older bottling keeps that easygoing feel but adds the depth that long aging brings.

Raise the glass and you get warm vanilla and something like a fresh sugar cookie. The first sip is rich with caramel and a syrupy sweetness. Vanilla stays with you all the way through. The finish runs medium to long and ends on soft butterscotch. For a whiskey this old, it drinks remarkably gently.

You can enjoy it neat to catch every layer. One large ice cube cools it without washing out the sweetness. It also makes a rich Old Fashioned if you feel like stirring something.

Food wise, it loves the grill. Try it with a seared steak or smoked BBQ. Afterward, pair it with dark chocolate or a wedge of aged cheddar.
