Each year The Macallan releases a new batch of its 18 Years Old Sherry Oak. This is the 2024 release. It belongs to the Sherry Oak range, a single malt whisky line from Speyside. Every drop rests for at least 18 years.

The casks are the key. The Macallan hand-picks European oak casks that are seasoned with sherry in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. Those casks give the whisky its natural light mahogany color. No color is added, so what you see comes from the wood.

The nose is gentle, with sultanas, orange and ground cinnamon. Then the palate turns full bodied. Mature oak leads, with ginger and raisin close behind. It ends silky and lingering, so give each sip a moment.

This is a bottle to sip with care. Try it neat first. A few drops of water will open up the aroma, and one large ice cube works as well.

The 18 year old shows off the house skill with oak and patience. Keep it for a birthday, a milestone or a quiet night that deserves something special.
