The Glenlivet Fusion Cask (750Ml)

Description

The Glenlivet Fusion Cask puts a fresh spin on Speyside single malt. It is the first release in the distillery's Fusion Cask series, which reached the US in 2024. The whisky first matures in American and European oak. Then a portion of it is finished in a cask built from two different barrels.

Here is how those casks come together. Coopers take apart first-fill rum casks and American bourbon barrels. They then join the ends of one barrel with the staves of the other. So each fusion cask holds wood from both spirits. The result layers tropical sweetness and soft vanilla over the classic Glenlivet style. It is bottled at 40% ABV with no age statement.

The nose is bright and sweet. You get orange, vanilla custard and caramel, plus coconut and a twist of lemon zest. The palate turns juicy, with apricot, peach and fresh apple. Toffee-covered banana and a little cinnamon come next. The finish is sweet and smooth, and the orange stays with you for a while.

Critics have been kind to it. Drinkhacker gave it an "A" grade in its 2024 review and called it a crowd-pleaser. The Daily Pour scored it 91 points, and Tastings rated it 93. The IWSC gave it 85 points and noted that it works with a cigar too.

Sip it neat or over ice to enjoy all that fruit. It also makes a light, refreshing highball with soda water. For food, pair it with dark chocolate, grilled peaches or a creamy cheese. Each one draws out a different side of its sweet style.
