Description

The Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 7 is a limited Speyside single malt from 21 casks. David Stewart chose ten refill sherry butts, seven sherry hogsheads and four American oak barrels. They married for three months in Tun 1509 in Warehouse 24. It was bottled at 52.4% ABV in 2020.

You first meet deep oak, then raisins, dates, ginger and brown sugar. The palate is rich and slightly peppery. Candied orange peel, vanilla, golden syrup and honeycomb lead to toasted hazelnut. Ginger and nutmeg bring a sweet, malty finish with oak and spice.

Sip it slowly and neat, and let a drop of water open it later.

Batch 7 is now hard to find, so it makes a memorable gift for a Balvenie collector.
