Old Scout Single Barrel Rye Whiskey is a special release from Smooth Ambler Distilling that's bottled at cask strength and made with a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malt. This series is aged in charred new American oak, non-chill filtered, and then bottled at a proof that may vary from 57.5% to 62.5% ABV, with a varying age statement. This specific rye was bottled at 59.1% ABV and aged for four years. The rye whiskey aroma is sweet, with primarily caramel and maple notes and hints of botanical herbs. The palate carries those flavors as well, with a bit of heat, depending on the proof. The finish is lightly dry and leaves you with the flavors of butterscotch and grain.
