Smoke Wagon Bottled in Bond Straight Rye is a 100-proof rye with plenty of personality. Nevada H&C Distilling Co. in Las Vegas ages and bottles it. The spirit itself is distilled in Indiana. The mash bill is 51% rye, with corn making up nearly all of the rest.

Bottled in Bond is a strict federal standard. The whiskey must come from one distilling season at one distillery. It must age at least four years in a bonded warehouse. It must also be bottled at exactly 100 proof. This one ticks every box.

On the nose, you get candied fruit, sweet corn and baking spice. The palate feels creamy and rich. Fruit and candy-like sweetness come first. Then black pepper and cinnamon kick in. The finish is long and spicy, with a light touch of oak.

Judges have liked it, too. It took Double Gold at the 2023 TAG Global Spirits Awards. It also won Silver at the 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
