Salt Water Woody Coconut is a coconut-flavored rum, not a vodka. It comes from Saltwater Woody, an American rum brand that launched in Louisville, Kentucky. Friends Fred Sutterlin, Paul Heintzman and Matt Kenney started the company in 2018.

The rum is distilled on the Florida coast from Florida molasses. It is then blended and bottled in Kentucky. The twist is right there in the name. Each batch is cut to proof with salt water, which the brand calls a first for any spirit.

Why salt? The makers say it tames bitterness and lifts sweet and sour flavors. Here it frames real coconut flavor, so the rum feels bright in a mixed drink. That makes it a natural match for lime, pineapple and other tropical juices.
