Description

Redbreast 21 Year Old is the elder of the Redbreast family. It is a single pot still Irish whiskey made at the Midleton Distillery in County Cork. The mash mixes malted and unmalted barley, and it is triple distilled in copper pot stills. That recipe gives the rich, spicy texture pot still fans love.

The whiskey then rests for at least 21 years. It sleeps in American bourbon barrels and in first-fill Spanish oloroso sherry butts. The sherry adds depth and nuttiness. It is bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration, and only in small amounts.

Your first breath brings fresh tropical fruit, then nuts and rich dried fruit. On the palate you find soft vanilla and toasted oak. Sherry nuttiness follows, with a light dusting of spice. Juicy, fleshy fruit fills out a silky mouthfeel. The finish goes on and on, with oak and warm spices. Last of all comes a gentle note of barley, right back where it began.

The awards shelf is busy. In 2020 it was named World's Best Pot Still Whiskey at the World Whiskies Awards. Whisky Magazine named it World's Best Single Pot Still in 2024. It also holds a Gold Outstanding medal from the International Wine & Spirit Competition.
