Rabbit Hole Boxergrail Rye Whisky is a Kentucky Straight Rye from Louisville. The mash bill is 95% rye with 5% malted barley. The barley adds body, while the rye does almost all the talking. The name mixes the grit of a boxer with the hunt for your Holy Grail. It also nods to Louisville's proud boxing history.

The spirit runs through a handmade Vendome copper still. It is then cut with Kentucky limestone water before it goes into the barrel. Those barrels are new American white oak from Kelvin Cooperage. Each one is toasted over a wood fire for up to 20 minutes, then charred. The whisky is bottled at 95 proof without chill filtration.

The nose is a surprise for a rye. You get kiwi, grapefruit, mango and banana, with hibiscus, lilac and pistachio. On the palate, tropical fruit meets chai spice, brown sugar and rye bread. A nutty note and sharp oak keep it in balance, and the body feels full. The finish is short, with a honeyed sweetness that fades gently.

Try it neat first so you can catch all that fruit. It also shines in an Old Fashioned, a Manhattan or a Whiskey Sour. Smoked meats, aged cheddar or dark chocolate make good company at the table.
