The Pessimist Red Blend is a bold and expressive wine crafted by DAOU Vineyards, founded by brothers Georges and Daniel Daou. Sourced from the renowned Paso Robles region on California’s Central Coast, this red blend brings together grapes like Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Syrah (Shiraz), and a touch of Lagrein to create a truly memorable experience. It comes in a standard 750mL bottle and is known for its deep, dark red color with a beautiful ruby edge.
The wine opens with a fruity and complex aroma, featuring notes of blueberry, boysenberry, and black plum, layered with hints of truffle, cocoa, spice, leather, and tobacco. On the palate, it feels smooth and silky, offering rich flavors of black cherry, cranberry, and crème de cassis. Aged for about 10 months in French oak barrels—half of which are new—it develops a full, elegant body and a long, lingering finish.
With an alcohol content between 14.9% and 15.2%, The Pessimist is bold yet balanced. It has earned impressive 92–93 point ratings from critics like Wine Enthusiast and Jeb Dunnuck. Perfect with grilled meats, BBQ, red-sauce pasta, or slow-roasted lamb, it’s a standout example of Paso Robles’ rich and full-bodied red blends.
