Old Forester 1870 Original Batch honors the way George Garvin Brown first made his bourbon. In 1870, on Louisville's Whiskey Row, he batched barrels from three different distilleries. He did it to keep the flavor steady from one bottle to the next.

Today the team follows that same idea with barrels from three warehouses. Each barrel comes from a different production day, entry proof and age. The barrels are batched together and only lightly filtered. The mash of corn, rye and malted barley ages in new charred oak. It is bottled at 90 proof.

The nose is bright and fruity. You will find juicy apple, mandarin and honey, with clove, nutmeg and sweet honeysuckle. On the palate, crisp apple and citrus meet shortbread, caramel and bright vanilla. A hint of clove keeps it lively. The finish is smooth and silky, fading into fruit, flowers, bright oak and gentle cinnamon spice.

Judges like it as well. It won Gold at Whiskies of the World in 2019 and Silver at the 2020 International Wine & Spirit Competition. The 2019 American Whiskey Masters also named it a Master.
