Old Forester 1897 Bottled in Bond is a Kentucky bourbon that honours an important law. The Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 set strict rules to protect whiskey drinkers. It comes from one distillation season, one distiller and one distillery. It ages for at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse. Then it is bottled at exactly 100 proof, or 50% ABV.

The brand has a long link to that idea of sealed quality. Old Forester calls itself America's first bottled bourbon, sold in sealed bottles since 1870.

Nose it first and you will find bold caramel and vanilla bean. Dried fruit, sweet leather and cured tobacco sit underneath. The palate leads with sticky toffee and smoky wood. Figs, dates and raisins add dark fruit depth. Black pepper and cinnamon give it a firm backbone. The long finish layers dark caramel, vanilla, fruit and oak, with leather and tobacco at the very end.

Judges have noticed it too. It won Silver at the 2020 International Wine & Spirits Competition. It was also named a Master at the 2019 American Whiskey Masters.
