Description

Heaven Hill was co-founded by the Shapira brothers in 1935. Its first distillery stood in Bardstown, Kentucky. Today the company distills at the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, at 17th and Breckinridge Streets. It remains one of the largest independent, family-owned bourbon makers. Bernheim turns out around 1,300 barrels a day.

Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond is Heaven Hill's twice-yearly decanter series. This Fall 2021 bottle is the eighth national release. The barrels were filled in spring 2010 and bottled in spring 2021, so you get 11 full years.

As a bottled-in-bond bourbon it comes from one distillery and one season. It is bottled at 100 proof. Like all Old Fitzgerald, it is a wheated bourbon, with wheat in place of rye.

The nose gives you toasted oak, vanilla and brown sugar, with baking spice and a hint of baked apple. On the palate it stays light in body. Think baked apple pie, a cinnamon stick, light leather and old oak. The finish is long and dry, with warm spice and sharp oak.

Whisky Advocate ranked it No. 16 in its Top 20 of 2021 with 92 points. Sip it neat or with one cube.
