Off Hours is a young bourbon brand built for easy, relaxed drinking. Founder Jake Ireland launched it in 2020. He worked with blender Ashley Barnes, who once worked at Buffalo Trace, to pick the final blend. The whiskey is a straight bourbon distilled at MGP in Indiana. It ages for more than five years in new charred oak.

Its recipe uses 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley. That rye share gives the sweetness some backbone. It is bottled at 47.5% ABV, or 95 proof, so it has real presence without feeling hot.

Lift the glass and vanilla comes first, with a little sweet baking spice. Bartender Spirits Awards judges also noted caramel and toffee, then polished wood and rich fruit. On the palate you get more vanilla, then toasted pecan, cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg. A gentle peppery warmth runs underneath. The finish is smooth and balanced, and the vanilla hangs on.

This 50ml mini holds the same whiskey as the full bottle. It is a handy way to try the brand before you buy a 750ml. It also fits in a gift bag, a travel kit or a party favor. Pour it neat, over a big ice cube, or stir it into an Old Fashioned. Bread pudding, pie, bacon or a handful of roasted nuts all go well alongside.
