Description

Nikka Days is a light, everyday blend from Nikka, the company Masataka Taketsuru founded in 1934. He learned his craft in Scotland and brought those methods home to Japan. Days shows his gentle side and makes a fine versatile Japanese whisky for any shelf.

The base is Coffey Grain whisky, made in Nikka's old continuous Coffey stills. Non-peated malt from Miyagikyo adds fruit. A little Coffey Malt and a dash of Yoichi malt bring sweetness and body.

The nose is fresh and fruity, with white flowers, orange blossom, pear and citrus. Sip it and you'll find a light, smooth body. Cereal, malt and toffee come first, then roasted nuts and vanilla. The finish is short to medium, with dry apricot, malt, gentle spice and the faintest wisp of peat.

This is a whisky you can pour any day of the week. It is easy neat or on the rocks. It really sings in a highball, so try it over ice with chilled soda and a strip of lemon peel. It pairs well with sushi, grilled seafood, chicken or fruit desserts.

Days is a good first step if you are new to Japanese whiskey. Fans of big smoke or sherry bombs may find it soft. If you want something calm and bright, it is a pleasant bottle to keep open.
