Description

This rum comes from Mount Gay in Barbados, and it is one of the rarest bottles the house has made. Master Blender Trudiann Branker built it from a blend of pot and column still rums. They spent about 20 years in ex-American whiskey casks on the island. A final year in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks added roundness and a dried-fruit, nutty edge.

Only 4,200 bottles were released, as the sixth edition of the Master Blender Collection. It is bottled at 45% ABV without chill filtration, and it pours a deep gold. Lift the glass and you get maraschino cherry, stewed fruit and butterscotch over charred oak.

The palate turns to red fruits and salted caramel, with a little banana and toasted vanilla. Smooth oak ties it all together. The finish stays long, sweet and velvety, so you will want to linger over each pour.

This is a rum to sip slowly. Pour it neat, or add a single cube of ice if you like it a little cooler. Dark chocolate, dried fruit and rich desserts all sit nicely beside it.
