Michter's US★1 Small Batch Bourbon is a Kentucky straight bourbon from Michter's in Louisville. The brand traces its roots all the way back to 1753. Its mash bill features high-quality American corn. The whiskey ages in fire-charred, new American white oak barrels.

Here, small batch has a clear meaning. Each batch is blended in a tank that holds no more than twenty full barrels. That tight limit keeps every bottling close to the house style. Michter's also fills its barrels at a lower entry proof and uses barrels that have been air-dried for a long time. It is bottled at 91.4 proof, or 45.7% ABV.

The nose opens with caramel, vanilla and charred oak. Dried fruit and a little cinnamon sit just behind. On the palate, Michter's describes rich caramel with balanced vanilla, stone fruit and a smoky depth. Baking spice adds warmth along the way. The finish is long, with sweet oak and toasted sugar.

The texture feels silky and round from start to finish. It is easy to sip, yet there is plenty going on in the glass.
