Description

Milam & Greene is based in Blanco, in the Texas Hill Country. The name honors Marsha Milam and Heather Greene, the CEO, partner and master blender. Master distiller Marlene Holmes brings 27 years from Jim Beam. That is decades of hands-on experience behind every batch.

This straight rye starts as Indiana rye whiskey. It travels to Texas and is finished in old Port wine casks in the Blanco warehouse. The Texas sun sets the pace, so some casks need more time than others. The team tastes them often, and Greene picks the casks herself. Clean water is used to proof it. Nothing is rushed.

The Port finish gives the whiskey a ruby color. On the nose you find cinnamon, chocolate and dark fruit like black currant and blackberry. The palate feels rich and velvety for a 94 proof rye. The finish is long and warm.

Pair it with grilled meats, aged cheeses or dark chocolate. The chocolate picks up the cocoa notes in the glass.

It also makes a lovely Manhattan or a classic Old Fashioned. The dark fruit adds a little extra depth to both drinks.

This whiskey is for people who enjoy depth and a touch of fruit. If you usually reach for lighter, simpler spirits, start with a small pour and take your time.
