The Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak is a single malt from The Macallan Estate in Speyside. It rests for at least 12 years, mostly in sherry-seasoned European oak casks. Those casks are seasoned with sherry in bodegas in Jerez, Spain, before they are filled. The spirit itself comes from the distillery's famous Curiously Small Stills. This whisky keeps its natural rich gold colour.

Pour a glass and you will find dried fruit and candied citrus peel on the nose. Oak, ginger and a dusting of nutmeg follow close behind. On the palate, raisins and sultanas meet a sweet ginger syrup. Soft cinnamon spice and a touch of vanilla come through next. The finish is long, with oak and warming ginger.

Sip it neat to enjoy every layer, or add a few drops of water to open it up. Ice gives you a cooler, mellower glass on a warm evening. It pairs nicely with dark chocolate, roasted nuts or a rich dessert.
