Unfortunately, after the 1910s and the global downfall of Irish whiskey, the distillery was forced to shut down. Over 100 years later, an ancestor of the original family, Darryll McNally worked his way into crafting whiskey under the symbol of the “leaping dog” once more. Limavady comes from the gaelic “Leim an Mhadaidh” meaning “The leap of the dog” is a beloved icon symbolizing bravery and goodwill, and master distiller McNally has set out to capture the spirit of the beloved icon for a new generation of whiskey lovers. Limavady whiskey is made in small batches with 100% malted Irish Barley, with only 846 bottles per barrel. After a triple-distillation in copper pot stills, the whiskey is aged in ex bourbon barrels before a final finish is ex sherry casks.
This Irish whiskey is a bright orange color with sweet, spicy, vanilla, and dried fruit aromas. The palate is rich and warm with more vanilla and spice, toasted almonds, caramel and dried fruits including roasted plum. The finish is soothingly long, with a smooth and warming feel. Sip Limavady whiskey neat and enjoy the whiskey born from legends of the past.
