Description

Lagavulin 12 Year Old comes from one of the most respected distilleries on Islay. Diageo bottles it each year for its Special Releases, at full cask strength.

It matures in refill American oak, which lets the peat smoke lead.

Nose it and you get intense smoke, brine and sweet malt, with a little lemon zest. The palate is bold and peaty, with sea salt, citrus and pepper over sweet barley. The finish is long, warm and smoky, ending on peppery spice.

This edition feels rounder than some earlier releases. There is less citrus bite and more full-bodied malt under the gentle peat.

Start with it neat to feel its fiery side. A few drops of water will calm it down. Smoked salmon, aged cheddar or dark chocolate make great partners for a true whiskey lover.
